Re: gearing

That depends on the year

Samis 86-95 are 3.73 R&P, and Xfer High range is 1.409. the pre 88.5 trany's had a higher 0.795 OD and
the post 88's had 0.865

Optimal gearing will depend on your engine (HP/RPM's) and what you want to do with the vehicle.

You can play "what if" using my gearingII spreasheet. It can be downloaded from the files/tech spreadsheets
section of my Off Road Tech yahoo group. Use the link in my sig.

BTW, stock axles and 35's aren't goint to play nice. 31-33's are about it for stockers unless your wiling to
live with lots of breakage.

Re: gearing

Yeah I think I may go with 33's until I can afford to do a toyota axle switch. If I do a SPOA and get 33's on there(I know ill need to do a tad bit more than spoa)....will stock gearing be okay w/ 1.3? It wont be that way for long though...after that ill either regear and do an engine swap or the other way around. when I regear ill do toyota axles as well.

Re: gearing

Nope, with stock gearing and a stock motor your going to be unhppy and probably burn a lot of clutches.
Even with 30's you can kiss off using 5th goodby. stock tire diameter is less than 27",and 33's are 6" higher.
That;s almost 20% difference. You only have a little over 60 HP (on a good day) available.

Re: gearing

a real sweet set up for 33s on a zuk wiht stock 1.3 engine is a 4:1 rockcrawler case and 4.62s in the diffs. this will make highway driving far more enjoyable and will be low enough off-road to have fun and not burn up clutches.

unless you only want to run mud...i personally can't imagine trying to drive a stock powered zuk on 33s on or off-road with out some sort of gear reduction but thats just my opinion.
