Best paint to use on rims?

I just scored on some 15x8 rims with 2 3/4" backspacing. Problem is they look like they have leprosey. About 4 coats of paint of diffrent colors from prievious owners. What I would love to do is sandblast them and have them podwercoated, but the wife dosn't want me to spend the $$$$$; she has a bad habit called eating and paying the bills. So now that I have them stripped down, doing it the hard way, whats the best paint I can use on them? Re: Best paint to use on rims?

My best friend just painted his wheels and all he done was prep his wheels good and used Chevy orange paint from napa. Turned out pretty good.

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

Autozone used to sell a wheel paint white. I have not been able to find it recently though. I painted 2 rims with it a couple years back and 2 with normal white paint and it held up better than the regular paint by far. The regular paint turned yellow too and the wheel paint stayed white. Also check Walmart they used to carry it too. Jim

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

I got some moldy looking 15x8x2" BS rockcrawlers last winter and this spring I just wirebrush/wheeled them until they were kinda smooth, then shot them with about 4 coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss black. they are gonna get banged up anyways and this way they are real easy to touch up.

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

Thanks guys, I figured that good old fashioned quality paint would do the job. Was just checking if someone had any experience with sonething that was new, space age and bulley proof.

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

I used black Hammered Rustoleum on mine....used the same on my Shrock bumpers and sliders...easy to apply, and hides the little runs you may create

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

I used the Black hammertone paint too, looks cool and seems pretty tough and it hides some flaws. One tip, use dark primer behind it or you'll see little spots of white where it makes the dimples. Ask me how I know

A buddy of mine used black spary on bed liner, second year, no chips, and easy cleanup. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3

Re: Best paint to use on rims?

I agree with daxe.... the semi-gloss black seems to be the best cuz it hides imperfections and touches up well with nary a sign of being touched up...the less gloss the less reflection the less noticeable defects...

just my $.02
