O/T FILE COMPRESSOR NEEDED

I have a VOB File that is .99 GB i want to compress it to put it on a cd. i got it off of a dvd. it will play on my computer but want to make it play on others. i have a copy of dvd to svcd softwares and i even paid for some but after 30hrs it still has not striped. i have win98se and over 300 mg of ram on a intell pen 3 550mhz. 9gb of hard drive space left

i have tried winar and i tried alcohol which is great it splits files and everything just no compression [img]images/graemlins/cussing.gif[/img]

PArt of what your running into here is that the VOB files from the DVD are just a minor mutation of an MPEG2 codec, which is also already hugely compressed. There is a limit to how much you can compress data.

The only way you are going to get that kind of video data to be smaller is to reduce the frame rate or dimensions or recompress it, losing a lot of quality. That's going to take a LONG time, especially on a computer that slow. Just trying to mash the file down to a smaller size with plain old data compression is pretty much a waste of time. It's kinda like trying to zip a JPG..

i understand but, it is not the complete dvd which is 7.8gb

the dvd is split up into several files this file is only 24 min. long

i guess i will have to finish the other computer it is a 1300 mhz with xp

i have a friend that has copied a dvd in about 13 hrs

i was thinking that this is not even compressed thats why i wanted some to squash it with

everything on a DVD is squashed to death already before you even try to rip it.
