I live in that state all the time , nothing ever to really get excited about , just put your foot forward and fix it when it does break . I do my usual maintainence work to prevent problems , but mostly I diagnose things by feel long before they become an issue . It's harder to apply this to other vehicles that I don't drive , but sometimes you just need to step back and ask the damned thing what it's problem is , they will tell you through little hints . Some wear here and there , oil leaks , coolant color/smells , and general driving impressions are all hints as to the real issue at hand . I enjoy walking into a shop and helping out mechanics that are stumped , I get called at least twice a month for that . I think a lot of times it's just a matter of a much needed different approach to tackle a sick vehicle . Seems to be a lot easier to do when you don't work on them every single rotten day....
