In my opinion, if you have a business with a website and an email address, you should make it a priority to check and respond to emails. Having, and especially posting, an email address implies that you can be contacted that way.
I have sent petroworks emails with no response and it has made me skeptical, as well.
In the past I have dealt with Rusty's Off Road for Jeep parts. I was told the same thing, "You have to call him. He's too busy for email." Well, he's got a toll number that I can't call from work. And, on occasion, I'd get no answer on the phone either. It's his prerogative to not use email and it's my prerogative to spend my money elsewhere.
I'm busy too, but email is easier for me than a phone call.
