charging system??

Ok the new DD Im suppossed to be buying will be purchased in about 2 days ( waitting on proof of title), I wanted to research ahead of time on what seems to be the only problem with it. He claims that the alternator is bad so it wont recharge the battery, I know I have a stocker lying around somewhere but by roughly checking the alternator itself it shows no signs nor reasons of why it shoudlnt recharge the battery (never know about internals tho), which makes me wonder is there another reason as to why it wouldnt be recharging the battery? maybe a fuse? a ground? I really dont wanna have to replace the alternator but if so then I will...

Re: charging system??

Billy, it has a internal regulator if its a zuk your talking about. Looks won't tell you much unless something on the outside of it is broke.

Re: charging system??

I was observing along the lines of wires and such ( making sure were all connected and no shorts), not the look of the actual alternator...sorry if that came off wrong, but I had no clue whether it could be ground or fuse related etc...thats what I was asking

Re: charging system??

Billy, it sounds like the alt lost a diode. I'd stick in your spare alt and check the charging voltage.
It should be about 14-15V.

Re: charging system??

Follow the connection from the alt 12v out to the wiring harness. in the wrapped harness is a solder joint that sometimes goes bad. that could be your problem too if not the alt.
