Taking out my 1.6 conversion 1.3 back in ????

I am selling my super nice 87 Samurai (its the nicest of 10 I have had) because I dont want to trash it wheeling it. I am going to set up another rig and want to put the 1.6 out of my nice one into it. I am going back with the original 1.3 in the nice rig. QUESTION... Whats the best way to make the swap? Should I pull the 1.6 and trans out as a unit and find me another trans to hook to the old 1.3 ? OR should I just pull the motor and plant the 1.3 back in it. I DID NOT do the conversion so I am not real up to speed on the 1.6 swap. Thanks guys

There have been hundreds of posts about the 1.6 swap on this BBS.

Look up above. There's a little menu item that says "search"

When you get to the search page you make sure you are searching this forum.

Then you put in some words to search for. In this case you might try something like: 1.6 samurai swap

In the "search options" drop down list box, choose "and" since you want it to find posts which contain all three of those words. 1.6 AND samurai AND swap

in the "date range" drop down list box, choose "all Posts"

put whatever you want in the "number of results" box. I think it defaults to 25. (There's a little button in the lower right that says "next" if there's more than fits on one page.)

click the Submit button.

The resulting page will give you a list of posts which contain all those words you specified. Some of them probably have valuable information about your question that has already been posted by the people you are asking for an answer.

Yep, Tom is correct on that one. well, maybe not totally reverse but the info still applies the same.

Is the 1.3 carbed or EFI? It'll be "easier" swapping the carbed... since the wiring is less. I love the search function.

Pull the engine and tranny together....I think it is actually easier to do it that way. If you do not have another tranny remove the engine and tranny after it is out then install the 1.3 with the tranny already bolted to it.

E-mail me if you have any Q's

Re: Taking out my 1.6 conversion 1.3 back in ????

I read your post. I read every post you put in here and 95% of them are asking questions that you can get answers for by doing a search. Obviously you just don't feel like taking the time to find the answers first and expect other people to do the work for you.

last week you posted a question about diagnosing what was wrong with the motor in a sami you got. You were told where to get a copy of the service manual which conatins answers to the questions you asked. The NEXT DAY you came in and asked more questions about the same thing. Did you get the manual and read it or did you just expect people to hand you your answers on a silver platter?

Back in September you posted three questions about what wheels fit your samurai. If you did a search on that topic you would have gotten all the answers you wanted, its been covered hundreds of times.

You posted a question asking about if there were any snorkle posts. Did you search first? No. You asked what its like to do a body lift, if anyone used a certain winch, does anyone have any longer bolts, whats the difference in tire sizes, what's a clicky starter fix, I need a hood (hint: try the FOR SALE SECTION), how do you remove fender flares, whats the gear reduction in Tcase gears and the list goes on.

They'e all perfectly good questions, but they had al already been answered. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. You will eventually run out of people polite enough to answer your questions because you are too LAZY to find the answers yourself.

I have never done a 1.6 swap into or out of a samurai. I am interested in the topic, though. It is my understanding that some of the kits available require you to drill out holes in the transmission and some do not. I'm guessing, but it seems like if the transmission itself has been modded to fit, you might want to leave it with the motor. If not, then it probably doesnt make any difference.

How did I arrive at this opinion since i have zero experience with the topic? I read past posts about the topic, read others opinions and gathered up previously posted info, including going to the various vendors sites to check out their kits and what they involve. If I am not willing to do that leg work first, then why should I expect the people in here to make an effort to help me?

Oh my! There is nothing wrong with searching and if WE don't, like we see here... it can be used against us.

Daxe your reply is a good example of writing out a complete thought.

MM- I hope you see what Daxe wrote as constructive criticism, he was not flaming you. He was boardering it... ... but really, search.
