Question on camo paint job

I'm getting ready to paint my sami and was thinking of doing a camo job but I got to wondering if the flat camo paint will resist staining. This red clay mud we have in GA. will stain just about anything. I'm thinking that since the camo paint is a flat paint without a slick glossy finish that it might be easily stained by red mud. Anybody with camo paint jobs here have any first hand experience with this ? I don't want to go to the trouble of all the prep work and then wind up with a crappy looking stained paint job.

Re: Question on camo paint job

Well using the 2 major systems (rustloum and Krylon) I have had staining with really acidic soils/mud. (badlands for example.)
you can allways squirt a flat sealer over it. Me I just live with it and repaint as needed.

Doesn't it add to the camo effect?

Re: Question on camo paint job

I'll have to consider that flat clear coat. Do you know if Krylon makes a clear flat finish that is compatible with their camo paint colors ?

Re: Question on camo paint job

I used the Krylon camo system on my Rem 700 BDL and topped it off with two coats of clear/matte. I didn't want it to look like trash when the color started rubbing off from use. It sealed it well and didn't give any odd discolorations over the color coats. Came out very well. Shame I'm over here now and won't be able to hunt deer this year.

Re: Question on camo paint job

I went to a hunting show in Anderson, SC a couple of weeks ago and a vendor was there with several trucks that were done with the "Camoclad" system. This stuff was awesome. As soon as my SPOA and 1.6 swap are done, I will have one of these.

Re: Question on camo paint job

That stuff looks really cool... but too pricey for me. I got two gallons of OD green from the army surplus for 32.00... I picked up a cheapy spray set-up for 39.99 I just need to thin it out and I'll have enough to do way more than just my sammy!
