Re: Another Daily Driver ??

Ive taken mine on a couple long trips

from Fort Worth to N.New Mexico and from Fort Worth to Springfield Il.

Its not really that bad and thankfully it rides rather well on the hwy when it is loaded up with gear which it usually is on my road trips. Reliability is my only consideration when choosing between the Zuk and another auto. If the Zuk has been treating me right and has no known issue at the time I would take it over my other vehicles everytime.

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

No problem! I've used both my Samurais on road trips up to 3-3.5 hours. I have upgraded my seats to those out of a Nissan Micra (bought them already modified to fit in a Zuk) so seat comfort is much better than stock. I plan to take an extended road trip ( The Melt next summer if money isn't too tight ) in one of them once I either rebuild the 1.3 in my garage or swap in a 1.6.

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

I would do it. I now have enough confidence in my ability to get her going again if something goes amiss

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

I have made the trip from Bloomington, IN to Ely, MN nonstop twice. I think that is about 800 miles one way. I would do it again especially with my '86 hardtop.

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

I have been on multiple long trips in zuks.

I drove my tintop from NJ to Miami and back, which is 1300 miles each way.

My brother and I drove to Cape Hattaras in his first soft top, which is about 600 each way.

This year we drove one and flat towed the other out to the Melt, which is about 750 miles each way. This was a whole new experience, since it was our first trip that involved driving through mountains almost the whole way. Since my brother was driving a zuk that still has the original 1.3L with 150,000 miles, each hill was a challenge.

(Anybody who was at the melt would remember my sound effects of a zuk going up a hill, then down a hill)

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

Take the zuke on a 10 hour roadtrip? Yeah if the point of the trip was making it in the zuke...just to do it because...otherwise probably not. Make sense? I trust it enough mechanically to go any distance now but with an x-cab silverado and S10 blazer to pick from that both get better mileage and undoubtly polute less than the primative Toyota carb, not to mention a wife and daughter who tolerate the zuke....as far as safety goes..the zuke is safer than a motorcycle but I really don't want to get into an argument out on the highway with a big SUV or semi..or even a little SUV.

Now for around town the zuke is the only thing I drive

Just not hardcore enough I guess....

Re: Another Daily Driver ??

I used to drive 10 hours ... not anymore ... I am trailering to Moab next week and I will probably trailer if its over a 2 hour drive in the future . I like driving my Zuk . But it is nice to be able to stretch out and relax in a full size tow vehicle .
I did drive a Zuk 900 miles from Tennesee to here ... I will just say it was an experience .
