Center Brace neccessary for shackles?

I'm going to make some shackles, and inch longer than stock.
Is it neccessary to have a center brace on the front, on all four, or not really necessary at all?

Also, I'd like to get them with the gold anodization, but it'd probably be cheaper to buy them in that case, wouldn't it?

Thanks for any input.

A lot longer and it's good for preventing twisting but an inch longer is fine. I made some quick ones out of plate myself
