OT - Business insurance and hurricanes
This is a bit of info I acquired as a result of Hugo in 1989. I had a business that stocked perishable items and we lost electrical power for 2 weeks along with all our inventory. The insurance company denied our claim since the electrical service mast and meter base were undamaged. Since the poles down the street broke and not anything attached to our building we were S.O.L. according to them. The catch phrase here is "off premises power interruption" which is what we had suffered at the store. 9 months of efforts finally got us a partial settlement but had I known then what I know now I would have hooked a tow rope to the service mast then to my K5 Blazer and tore the whole side of the building off! This normally doesn't pertain to a home owners policy just the business type. If you lose power at home they will usually cover frozen food but may not cover your expensive aquarium fish! Check your policy & good luck to everyone in NC, VA and anywhere else this storm goes.
