Re: welded gears or not?

the short answer is yes.

If you want to read the hundreds of opinions about this topic without making the people who typed them in the first place type them all over again, then just visit the search thing. There's a button up there someplace. Make sure you are searching this forum and specify all posts. Use "welded" as your search term or maybe "welded diff" or "welded gears". If you put in more than one word to search for, then make sure you telkl it to search for AND not ENTIRE PHRASE, though you will get results with that setting, too.

Seriously, we all want to help, but this has been asked and answered dozens of times already. That's what the search function is for. Heck..I think there's two thread going about this topic right now!!

And fill out your bio, please. We like to know who we are talking with.

welcome to the ORC BBS

Re: welded gears or not?

Invest in a set of lockers. I have mine welded and if all I drove was off road I would keep them in, but I'm getting ready to put my open diff. back in so I can start driving in the road again. I don't like lockers but they are a hundred times better than the welded gears.

Yes. In fact, in any situation I tend to read as much as I can and learn on my own before I present my questions to the people who "know."

Think of it like a social situation. When you are going to a gatherring of people you have never met before, do you just barge in the door and start talking or do you take a few moments to feel the situation out before you introduce yourself?

I guess it's one of my own pet peeves when people refuse to search. Not just here, but on the internet in general. Happy Trails was told that he could get a hi-lift at a farm supply store and immediately replied, apparently at an impasse, that he didnt know of any around where he lives. In about 30 seconds I had checked his profile for his location, gone to switchboard.com and found a huge list of farm supply stores within 25 miles of his house.

Maybe I'm showing my age or something, but it used to be when you needed an answer for something you had to spend hours on the phone, or visit a library or read your encyclopedias, etc. Then if you were lucky, you'd find the info you needed.

These days, nearly all the info known to mankind is only as far away as your computer keyboard and a few minutes of searching. It bugs me when answers are practically laid on a silver platter liike that and people still can't take the incentive to do some research themselves.

For instance, I am entertaining thoughts of building an electric rock crawler. I was thinking of it before Junkyard wars the other night, too. Instead of jumping on an electric vehicle BBS someplace and announcing my intent, I am doing lots and lots of reading about it and forming my own opinioins and ideas before I run them by people who know about it, already. One advantage to that is sometimes I come up with ideas that are original because I'm not just recycling other peoples ideas.

Whew. I think I need a laxative. Sorry.

Valium daxe? LOL!

Actually I agree with you. I didn't get what I know by asking for it. Some, yes, but I read voraciously.

My home library scares ME...
