body swap day

Fellow zukaholics,

Today is the day the rusty hardtop body goes bye bye on my 88.5 samurai. I have Wildweasel and Tomkat and AmigoDave coming over ina few hours to help me yank the body from a nice, rust free 88.5 softtop I got from aftermarket4x4 (who is having a sami clearance sale if you havent heard) so we can do the transplant to the hardtop frame.

I have the softtop body almost fully dislodged and ready to pull, but now we have to empty out the hardtop and try to undo all the horribly rusty bolts and nuts in order to get the body off that one. We have nice weather (working outside) and enough people to muscle it, or we could put up a little pole tripod thing with cut down trees and use a comealong to pull the bodies.

I hope by the end of the day to have it all screwed together enough to drive, then I can do all the little detail work at my leisure. I'll try to remember to take pictures along the way.

Re: body swap day

You won't need all that rigging equipment. If you lighten it up some first you can lift it with a few doodz. I pulled the tub off one of mine by myself with a hy-lift jack. I just set two saw horses beside the Zook, jacked up the rear with hi-lift & pushed it over onto sawhorses, then the same for the front.

I'll make a big pot of fresh ground Kona blend when ya get here. We'll have everyone so hopped up on caffeine that we'll get it all done in about 45 minutes.

Re: body swap day

Good luck Daxe. Pics pics pics. Let me just say, you are extremely lucky to have friends who have the same addiction/phsycosis as you do, and are willing to donate their time to "get a fix." Wish I could say the same. Hope you bought a lot of beer.

Hey Kamazuki,

I'm not but 40 minutes from you and I know a couple guys even closer. All you need to do is say the word, promise some beer (good beer) and I'm sure a few of us would show up to lent a hand.

Re: body swap day

body swaps are not tough. my friend and i have each done them by ourselves too.

look at the pic i have attached. my friend purchased the zuk for spare parts and the previous owner wanted the body back because it was "nicer" than most found here in minnesota.

Re: body swap day

here's some pix from the swap. We got the tub moved over before it started to rain. Lots more to do, but its all pretty easy stuff from here. Hopefully will get it kinda finished up by next weekend! Thanks to Wildweasel, Tomkat and AmigoDave for helping out. Missed ya Zooky!

Oh yeah..and no beer necessary. We did lemonade and barbecued burgers and dogs. I'd be happy to get 'em drunk but half of 'em don't drink and drinking while you are trying to accomplish something is usually counterproductive.
