Inoperable fuel guage question

My fuel guage only partially works. When the tank is full the needle sets well below the empty mark. Then somewhere between full and half of a tank the needle rises to the midle of the guage. After that it's intermittent as to where it sits. Do you think the problem's in the guage at the dash or in the sending unit in the tank? And, has anyone else experienced similiar problems?

Capn,
If there is a good connection at the sender, my guess is the sender is the culprit. See the thread on the fuel sender fix.......

Try unhooking the wire from the sender, ground it, your gauge should rise to max full slowly. Then drop back to E when you remove ground wire. My guess is sender, this should confirm it.

Mine does the exact same thing. I'm gonna pull the tank one day soon and try to fix it.
