It does pay to know your Samurai...

Friday I took my Samurai in for an inspection so I can get the tags renewed.

It disappeared from sight for maybe 5 minutes before I walked into the service bay area to check on things.

The started rattling off all kinds of small problems that they found, which noted and was appeciative for their noticing them.

Then they pointed out something very odd (aside from the fact that they felt that the 1.6 8-v Webered engine would not pass inspection -- DUUUH!):

The brake lights don't work!

At the time, I didn't comment on it figuring something must have shaken loose, because they worked fine the day before...

This morning, I got around to fixing the above mentioned problems including checking the brake lights. I found that THE BARKING CONNECTORS TO THE BRAKELIGHT SWITCH UNDER THE DASH HAD BEEN REMOVED!

I guess I won't be doing business with that place anytime soon!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a great relationship with my local inspection guy.

Re: It does pay to know your Samurai...

As much of a pain as inspections are I think they are a good thing . I lived in a state (that I will leave unnamed ) that did not require an inspection . I saw the scariest vehicles as daily drivers . My neighbor had a K Car that was so rusted you could see his feet when he made a left turn ! The body actually lifted up and the floor pan stayed down . And his was one of the better looking cars! Now not all of the cars were that bad , but a lot were . And the inspection process here is by no means perfect . I see cars on the road and I wonder how they passed . But on a whole it weeds out alot of the bad ones .
But irregardless what they did to Ack was dirty . Time for the 10 o'clock news special update on them !

Re: It does pay to know your Samurai...

Oh the Irony of some of these posts!

I work as a Broadcast Engineer at a TV station - with an active investigative consumer reporting staff.

But sometimes ya just gotta cut your losses. So I asked around at the KC 4-Wheel Drive Association meeting last night and got a couple of leads on places to go for an inspection.

I am apprciative of the items the mechanic spotted (Crown nut on pittman arm not snugged up, top shock mounts loose, throttle arm nut missing.... hmmm, that is peculiar!), but I think I am done doing business with them.

the news won't do stories on that - they get way too many advertising bucks from jiffy-lube, quick-10, etc...

also, i NEVER let my vehicle out of my sight when dealing with those thugs. i've seen & heard way too many scary stories like yours.
