97 1.6 - Does the ECM Map for positive boost?

It has not even been a year and already I am asking this...

Q.~ Does the ECM on a 97 tracker 1.6 map for positive boost?

I have an oportunity to aquire turbo goodies for very little cash (and a bit of labor). But the whole thing is pointless if, like honda, the ECM does not map the fuel for positive boost (I can not afford much extra).

Should have gone for the 2.0.

Anybody know???

Well I dont know if this helps or not but I have installed Whipple Industries screw-type blowers on several 5.7 and 7.4 liter engines. I have ran as much as 8 lbs of boost with the stock GM map sensor. No problems. They run much better with custom calibrations to the fuel and spark tables, but will run OK with stock ECM.

I know a guy in Canada that has done the 1.6 16 valve Turbo thing and he indicated that it will compensate for up to 4 or so psi of boost then you begin running too lean. So keep the turbe size small and the boost low and you will be fine according to him.

You could always go with the 5th injector and controller. Make @#[email protected]$#@#[email protected]$#@#$(&@#($&@#(&[email protected]#(&[email protected]( #&$(@#&(@#&$*#$(^($#&(@%(&% sure you have a boost pressure gauge and a fuel mixture gauge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is very important on "junkyard" turbo setups (a custom setup that is not a 4000 dollar kit that has been tested umpteen times ).

Good website, lots of info.

I might be able to get my hands on an x-90 with a bunk motor, I'd like to turbo that if I could (just to say I did ).
Many MANY options.

Re: 97 1.6 - Does the ECM Map for positive boost?

Yeah, I am with you there. I've done my homework as far as the cold start injectors and Nos injectors as the 5th and 6th but man... money money money.

I have seen several small turbos from vw, saab and ford. The obstacle, mostly is the custom exhaust manifold and the controls for the 5th and maybe sixth. (why does the turbine have to be so darn close anyway? is it just that cars don't have the clearance to put it elsewhere? eh, I don't want hot feet though...)

Here are some of my finds... Sooo much to read though...
http://www.perfectpower.com/installations/suzuki.asp <-not a 1.6, but I KNOW he experianced a performance boost This product a$ a controller i$ cool but $d$a$m$n$.

http://pages.cthome.net/gus/fuel.html (borrowed info+extra stuff)
geared towards evidently popular saab donor injector...
http://pub83.ezboard.com/fteamswiftf...picID=46.topic others confirm the 4-5psi limit of the stock ECM

Any who I am still digging and will share what I learn as I go... Unless it is truley golden, then I'll patent it and get out of my stinking rut

Peace
