O/T air compressors

Finally got around to trying out the air compressor I bought from my brother-in-law. It kicked on fine but then started lugging and the electric motor shut itself down.

It's been sitting for a year, so what sort of maintenance should I do before I try starting this thing up again. There's an oil filler for the compressor, so I'm assuming it needs some type of oil. Any special kind?

Best bet would be to go to a compressor shop with the model # of your compressor and use what they recomend. I have a 50 plus year old Quincy compressor and it required a special oil different than what some modern compressors use. No problems so far.....
