My stuped \"trick\"-OT

I dont know what else to call it. I was changing the oil in my car last night, in a hurry like usual. Anyways started putting in the oil. Right before i put the second quart in i hear this sounds like running water. I look under the car and what do you know. No drain plug and i had moved the pan. Oil everywhere. Thank goodness it was only 1 quart. My dad is real particular about his driveway too. Thank goodness he saw it as funny.

If anybody else has any stupid tricks they would like to share. Feel free too.

Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

What did you do to clean the oil?
If you pick up most of it with kitty litter, then hit it with dish soap or laundy soap and water, and not let it soak into the driveway. You will not be able to see the oil spot.

Just my 2 cents

Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

Well at least you finally got oil in there. My best stupid
human trick was to take a test drive after installing a
freshly assembled full floating rear axle. The howling noise
that started in a mile alerted me to the fact that I forgot
to fill it with oil.I was able to unlock the rear hubs and
drive the rig home in 4 wheel high.No damage done, lucky
me.

Funny thing you should mention that; but if you are adding oil to a J**p 4.0L that sound is normal.
My Stupid trick was forgetting to replace the oil filler cap. Needledd to say, after 2 days of highway driving and one day of dirt road roads my whole engine bay was coated in oil soaked dust covered muck.

Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

My best Zuk related screw up was shen I installed new rear axle bearings last year. I get the old bearing and retainer off of one axle and re-install the new ones and, while smiling proudly at my fantastic job, go to lay the axle down to pick up the other one and see both brake backing plates laying on the ground. Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

Well its not my trick but a buddie that i was on the boat with changed his oil he drained it and refilled it the only problem was is that he drained the transmission fluid and filled the engine, so he had no fluid in the tranny and 2x the oil in the engine the bad thing was is that i showed him how to change the oil in his wifes car the week befor he did that

Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

That reminds me of something that happened where i used to work. They had a gasoline powered forklift. It ran out of gas so naturally a guy filled it back up. Bad thing was that he put the gas in the radiator not in the fuel tank. Thank goodness they didnt start it. I dont know what would have actually happened but id say it wouldnt have been good.

Re: My stuped \"trick\"-OT

Last time I changed my spark plugs, I sprayed the Dist cap with some silicone ignition spray and forgot to put the cap back on.. Took me a couple of minutes to figure that one out. Also saw a guy topping his rad off with a jug of windshield washer fluid.
