Fuel pump cuts out

Hi, I am running a purolator fuel pump in my sammurai and for some reason it just quits working, but then works fine later. My friend has the same pump and his does the same thing. I have been running it for a year and it just now started doing this. Is it the pump, or the wiring? any imput is appreciated What's the best fuel pump to use?

I had the same problem and went through a couple pumps before wiring the ground directly to the battery instead of the frame. Once I had it wired direct to the battery, I never had another pump go bad.

Re: Fuel pump cuts out

wow! You got a purolator pump to last almost a year! You got lucky and got a good one. I went through two in about 10 months, they suck, always died at the worst possable time, but a smack with my tire iron usually got it going again for a day or so. I now use a NAPA one, more expensive, but I havent had any problems with it. I have had all my pumps wired directly to the battery and that did not make a difference on the purolators, but it is a good idea

Re: Fuel pump cuts out

Yeah your right. LOL. Only difference is I used a hammer to smack mine and it usually worked for an hour, and when i was lucky and being good maybe even two. I just installed a different style pump from AutoZone and that did the trick. I'll be sure to ground it to the battery. Thanks for the replies
