O/T \"Security Check Emails\" WTF? Anybody... (LONG)

else getting this crap?

I got one from "Paypal" the other day that was like this:

Dear PayPal Customer

This e-mail is the notification of recent innovations taken by PayPal to detect inactive customers and non-functioning mailboxes.

The inactive customers are subject to restriction and removal in the next 3 months.

Please confirm your email address and and Credit Card info number by logging in to your PayPal account using the form below:

Email Address:
Password:
Full Name #:
Credit Card #:
Exp.Date(mm/yyyy) #:
ATM PIN (For Bank Verification) #:

This notification expires May 31, 2003
Thanks for using PayPal!

This was sent to an email addy that I don't even use with Paypal.

I got another one from some NoChek place and NOW I got another one, with a link supposedly from EBAY. This one was sent to the correct addy, but what the heck is "bookieguide" (see link info below.. you can click on the link and see how authentic this looks).

This was the EMAIL I got with the above link:

Dear valued eBay member,

It has come to our attention that your eBay Billing Information
records are out of date. That requires you to update the Billing Information
If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and update
your billing records, you will not run into any future problems with eBay's online service.
However, failure to update your records will result in account termination.
Please update your records in maximum 24 hours.

Once you have updated your account records, your eBay session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to update will result in
cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future billing
problems.

Please click here to update your billing records.

Thank you for your time!
Marry Kimmel,
eBay Billing Department team

Pretty authentic looking... but I think it's totally phony. Watch out people.

Notify ebay and Paypal of that for sure. I agree with you, that is very authentic looking, but good job not falling for it.

I have been getting one that tells me that paypal is scamming me and I need to use their software to detect bad payments .All they need is my account id and password ! I reported them to Ebay and I havent gotten anything back . In the past when Ebay has asked for me to update info , they never threatend to discontinue my use of my account .And I had to log in at My Ebay page to update too . Defintiley forward those to E bay . To many lazy fawkers are making the net a scam paradise ...arrgh . I ahve been lucky so far .... but it sucks that you have to worry about it . With that said I have never had a problem with anyone on here or over at Pirate .

Found some updated info on the PayPal ordeal. See this site:

http://www.wired.com/news/ebiz/0,1272,57673,00.html

Copy and Paste the WHOLE url above.

IF ANYONE receives any email like what I said above from a claimant EBAY, forward the entire email to [email protected] . Apparently they know about it.

Corrected URL

Now there is a new user agreement that you have to agree to, haven't finished reading that yet.

THese scams came up about a year ago. Paypal nor ebay would never ask for you to send any of that information in an email. Check your ebay registration for all information regarding your account information. You should definatly report these fawkers. Unfortunatley, many poeple fall for this scam.

Welcome to BookieGuide.com
The Premier UK Gambling Portal!

Good thing you did not make that bet!

NEVER send this info via email. Make sure the url says

https://xxxx.ebay.com
https://xxxx.paypal.com

etc if you are entering it somewhere.
