Opening up spring clamps worth it?

Hey,

I'm cleaning up a set of YJ springs for use soon and was wondering about the spring clamps (that wrap around the leaves, holding them together).

Is it really worth it to fold or cut them open for better droop? Does it just make more problems like easier spring wrap or bent leaves?

I have seen it done both ways on rigs that flex really well so what's the concensus?

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Opening up spring clamps worth it?

I bend mine stright up so they let the leaves open up and they still act as a guide to keep them from getting to far out either left or right . It seems to help and I have done it on my cjs and zuks soa and spua with decent sucess and no major wrapping of the springs yet .

I have the stock springs but be careful while being pulled out at full droop. I drop through some ice and during the process the only thing keeping my rear axel from moving is the top leaf spring and with my open spring pack it bent the top leaf up 90 degrees before we knew what was going on. I dont think you will have a problem with the Yj spring.

Re: Opening up spring clamps worth it?

I have a similar question. Will trimming those pads between my leafs do much? Say if I trim the pads, and open up the clamps I'll notice a fair difference?
How do I trim those pads?
