How to not get ripped off, AKA-CYA

Like in the post "any one know sean dyne???" do you want to know how to buy something online, from another guy without getting ripped off?

I sold a set of Lockers that I had laying around, that didn't fit the truck the guy that bought them from me owned, I told him, "if they did not fit send them back for his money back on them" we sent them back and forth by UPS - COD....( we both thought they were the right ones for his truck, but they were not, and I have sense found a happy buyer for them)

I suggest anyone buying used parts from someone they don't know use COD shipping. And if you are going to pay for it, make sure you make the UPS driver stay while you inspect it to make sure it is what you are paying for!

Anyone have a better idea, pass it on.

AMEN Dave, that is the safest way. I guess I am guilty though, I will actually ship stupid stuff and trust folks to pay me the $10,20,or 40 bucks for it. I may just be the lucky one, I have never been burnt. Hope they get that idiot. Don't really like people like that...

You can also request that the COD be paid by cash or by money order. Its an extra pain for the recipient, but its a grander form of CYA. Gets rid of the bouncy check thing.... at which you may be surprised at how many there are when dealing with CODs.

Re: How to not get ripped off, AKA-CYA

I have made hundreds of transactions on the net with basically no problems, these are the rules I use.

Basic rules of Internet Commerce:
Always be leery of someone with out a "real" email address, I am always scared of Hotmail, yahoo or other anonymous email accounts.
Insist on a real STREET address, not just a PO box.
Ask for a telephone number and use it to make contact.
Don't be afraid to ask for references and check them out.
Use Postal Money Orders, they are traceable and you have some recourse if you are defrauded.
