half-doors

i was thinking of making tubular frame half doors that sit on the existing
pegs from removable doors, strech canvas over them and put a simple latch
to hold them shut. i want them small and light enough to toss them in back.
has anyone else made anything likes this? any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks,aaron

Re: half-doors

i know what your talking about, but haven't made them myself. i am going to make a set of half doors using some old steel doors. got 2 junk ones. plan on just cutting them down after i gut them and use them. can even use the original latch. shouldn't be too hard to make a set of canvas half doors. go to a building supply and get some standard re-bar for concrete. comes in 20 foot joints around here. it does have some silly looking ribs all the way up it though. once you put canvas over it shouldn't be a problem though. may be able to use a factory door latch of you design it right. who knows. your imagination is the limit on that one man...
let us know how they turn out, may just have to copy you.. ha,ha
good luck

Re: half-doors

re bar is available in 2 ft and 4 ft lengths at Lowes, and Home Depot, althoug I wouldnt use it, its soft metal, heavy, and rusty when you buy it!

use some barstock, maybe even aluminum or stainless

Im getting some full hard doors for damn near nothing and cutting htem down, but might eventually make some canvas doors too
