home-made shackles??

i was thinking of making my own shackles, has anyone else done this? It looks like a could just a couple of flat steel, drill the proper wholes and it would work great, any problems/insight on this?

Re: home-made shackles??

that is basically all there is too it man. the last time i built a set of shackles, i used the ones that advance auto parts sell for $12.95. much easier than trying to find the steel and then the bolts. i welded supports in the center too. just like the ones that zuk companies sell. they have multiple holes so you can select your amount of lift. if you go this route like i did, DON'T FORGET to cut off the extra amount steel hanging below the springs. we ended up with a bent leaf spring as a result of our forgetting. it really sucked too.
good luck
