Should you change the gear oil after welding on diff covers?

Just finished installing (read welding) homemade diff covers (8" pipe cap.

My questions is simple, should I change the gear oil and why?

I just serviced both diff about 100 miles ago, and really don't want to spend cash on more stink fluid.

I sure hope not because I never changed mine. A friend of mine recently installed some and as far as I know he didn't change his. Did you mig weld or stick weld them on? I had mine mig welded.

YES YES YES, change the oil!!!! When your welding on the rear axle the housing gets HOT, efectivly boiling the oil and breaking it down. I just finished welding my new pumkin caps on and before it came off the lift I changed the oil.
If you value you diffs, change the oil.

Remove all oil or fluids before you weld
then issue does not exist
