toyota axle question

i am in the way putting landcruiser lj70 axles under my zuke. yesterday i had a talk to a toyota guy and he told me that welding the spring-pads is not so easy because the axles are made out of poured iron and his first welds didnt hold...

Is there a problem when welding them with my inert gas welder?

Re: toyota axle question

These are from the 1980's landcruser Yes? If so they are steel.
Clean it up good make sure you get plenty of penatration.
Zooky has a set under his sami and they are regular steel.
as long as your MIG/GTAW is in the 150-200 amp range you should have no problem.
If they are cast Just use a High Nickel welding rod with a stick welder.

Re: toyota axle question

Alan That axle will not work under the sami. Look at the front
output (hint drivers side pumpkin.) The Guy is in my 4WD club BTW>.
