Chicago Electric 8000lb winch arrived today

Like the title says, I got one of these from Harbor Freight. So far it has sat on my kitchen counter for pictures and been carried downstairs to my shop, so I have no reports on how well it works, but I thought i would toss in a few pictures for the curious.

It came in two boxes, one of the boxes was the mounting plate, which weighed in at about 25 lbs. The other box contained the winch, control box, fairlead, remote switch, hook and hardware. That box was a tad more than 80lbs. Everything looks plenty beefy with maybe only the control box looking a tad flimsy. I have never had a winch before so I have nothing with which to compare it. I'll throw in a few pictures in case anyone is interested in how it looks. This first pic is the box it came in.

A wheeling buddie of mine just installed one on his YJ. The specs. on it are identical to the Mile Marker, and it is manufactured by the same company. Other than the line speed is a bit slow, it gets the job done.

Thats actually a duplicate of the ramsey REP8000 which i have, except a weaker motor. the solenoid box, spool, remote & support housings look identical to my REP8000 but your planetary gear box is squared off for some reason.

Harbor freight just recently started offering a 9000 lb electric which looks to be manufactured either by warn or milemarker. its $499.

Re: Chicago Electric 8000lb winch arrived today

One rap against this and other cheap winches is that you may not be able to get parts for it. Referring once again to the japanese/korean/whatever copy guitar flood, if you buy a copy of, say , a Fender stratocaster, you can often replace the parts on the guitar with real fender stuff or aftermarket stuff designed to fit a real fender. I wonder if I break or wear out something on this winch if I could just use Ramsey parts.

Just a thought. Weirder things have happened.

Re: Chicago Electric 8000lb winch arrived today

daxe,
According to the people I have talked to and people I know that own them, parts can be gotten from Mile Marker. It's the same winch. It's made in China, but what isn't these days, by the same company that manufacturs their, the Chinese armys, military winches.
From what I have been able to gather, the Chinese struck a deal with Mile Marker to manufacture their hydraulic winch in return for providing them with the electric model.
