tranny help

ok my tranny is making a god awful grinding noise. it really only does it when i have the clutch out. when i push it in it stops. sometimes it also takes a while to engage in reverse. could this be the throwout bearing or is the tranny just wasted? thnx

Re: tranny help

How does the clutch pedal feel? Also, how did it start? was it gradual or did it just start all at one time? Does it grind when the clutch is in and you are coasting?

Mine did something similar. I stopped to lock the gate and when I mashed the clutch in to put it back in gear, it sounded horrible in there. And is was a grinding noise, "God awful grinding noise" would be a pretty good description. The difference in mine and yours is that mine made the "GAGN" when the clutch was pushed in. Based on that and if it grinds when the truck is rolling with the clutch in, I'd have to say it sounds like a bearing in the tranny to me.
