large tires and gearing

Planning to put large tires (235/75-R15 or 235/80-R15) on stock geared sammy.

What would be the effect on the gearign and how much will I lose in terms of speed, pickup and the use of fifth gear on the highway?

any response appreciated.

Thanks

Re: large tires and gearing

Ive been running 235's on my sami with stock gears for a few months now. It hasnt affected it too much (I guess Moab in a week Ill find out). As for highway driving, I dont go into 5th as often as I did with the stock 205's, but thats to be expected. Your Gas milage drops a bit. I used to beable to go 200miles on a tank, I can now only go about 180.
Pickups about the same as stock, but youve got more meat to turn. So, you know. ;-)

it'f fine if i don't use the fifth gear as often but what is teh top speed do you get from your sammy? Corrected speed on speedo or speedo geared for the stock 205's?

Well, Im really not sure what the top speed is. I try not to go that fast, its kinda windy around where I live and I have a hardtop ;-). As for the speedometer, with the 235's on, its off by about 5-7mph.

Remember, the odometer is thrown off too, so you are going more than 180 miles, your Zuk just doesn't know it. I have 31's and only show about 150-170 per tank. I think I still get somewhere around 20mpg. Who knows.
