Painting Questions...????
I'm considering my options regarding painting parts of my Sami. Firstly, my hood needs to be replaced. I have an really nice spare one, but I need to fab a new scoop/vent to allow for clearance for my Weber.
My present hood has a vent that I fabbed, but I was looking for something a bit mor professional and larger. My question here is, being that there aren't any off the rack scoops that will fit my setup, what would be the best way to fab up a hood scoop? I was thinking something like what the roundy round crowd runs on modifieds. I would also like it to have a closeable vent, employing a cable to open and close it as the weather dictates. My sheet metal skills are nonexitent, so I'd have to find someone local to fab this up. Any ideas here???.........
When that is resolved, I'll then have to paint it myself or have it done professionally. Cost to have a shop paint it would be around $100 or so. What would be my options ??
Any suggestions??.......

Of course, I want the world and only want to pay pennies for it....

For the hood scoop check with JC Whitney, or check with Jimzuki to see how he fabbed the scoop on Monzuki. When I repainted my Zuke I did all the sanding and stripping of parts myself. Then I took it to the local Earle Schibe, supervised the masking and had them shoot it. I came out real nice. Remember 98% of a paint job is the prep.

Re: Painting Questions...????

Zippys right on the prep thing for the paint... if you go the extra step and purchase the paint also prior to getting Earl Schieb to squirt it it'll really come out nice. I've seen some $300 paint jobs done thata way and you'd swear that the guy spent thousands...

What you're payin for in the body shops is the prep... so take your time to prep to your satisfaction, get somebody that knows something about body work. I've heard of guys going to the local junior colleges and taking a body shop class just to paint their vehicles...

Re: Painting Questions...????

One of my buddies has a race car shop and could fab up a scoop for you.
Another buddy of mine has a body shop and could do the paint work for you.
Both shops are located in Hudson, NY
