Anyone paint over Herculiner

I don't really care for the black Herculiner in my sammy and don't want to add another coat of the stuff to get a grey covering.

Was wondering if anyone has ever tried painting over herculiner with somethng like High Gloss Rustoleum?

I am not so concerned about the slip resistance and the black color has to go!!

What ever you use should be polyurethane based and clean all the surfaces with xylol before you try it .I am curious how this will turn out . They didnt have the add in uv stabilizer when I herculined my two vehicles and now they are kinda dull looking .I can do the armor all thing but then its like asuicide mission getting in!

Re: Anyone paint over Herculiner

When I Herculined my Zuk, I Herculined the bottom section of the doors. When I spray painted(rattle can) my Zuk white, I painted over the Herculiner on the doors. I used Krylon paint.

It's held up better than I thought. But everytime someones shoes bump or scrape against the bottom of the door...a little more of the white paint rubs off. When to much black starts showing I can just paint it again.

I don't think paint would hold up very well on the "high traffic" areas...like the foot wells.

Re: Anyone paint over Herculiner

1 gallon let me do 3 coats in my sammi and I did the skidplate too. I am not sure how valid this is but I read a few posts about herculiner not sticking to the asphalt on the floorboards . So I spent a half a day chipping it out of mine. I used a carbon scraper and a small ball peen .Most of it kind of popped out . Anyone herculined over the asphalt with sucess? I now have a second sammi to do and would like to by pass the chipping if possible .
