More thermostst woes.

Well had another thermostat go bad on me today. That's the third in as many months. I am now convinced that Sant is just another spelling for sh*t. Would like to get one from Suzuki but the nearst dealership is about 30 miles away. Are there other options, does Robert Shaw make a stat for Zuks?

Re: More thermostst woes.

I share in your frustration. Stant is junk and Robertshaw is not much better. I bought one of thoses Robertshaw generation 2 thermostats for my pickup about four months go and had to replace it last night. I bought three for my wifes car before I ever got one that worked. I don't know why, but they recalled all of the Generation 2 thermostats. It is aggrevating that parts as simple as a thermostat are produced in such poor quality when there is so much depending on it.

I know what you mean. I am on my fifth one in the last year. I finally gave up and just left it alone. Everytime I put a new thermostat in it would only last two weeks at the most.

Don't feel bad, took 9 before I got a good one and it's not all that predictable either . I can't believe someone hasn't shot every engineer at Stant and other companies like them , I'm real tempted since they've cost me more than one head gasket .....

Re: More thermostst woes.

Hey Guys...

I too share in your woes... I truly believe that we have gotten what we paid for... All the ones that I purchased (besides OE) were made in China!! Who's idea was it to send all of our technology and $$ to China to encourage child labor and end up with crap for our purchase??

Wouldn't it be better to pay $25 for one US made stat that lasted forever and keep the $ on these shores?? How many $8 Chinese stats do you have to buy to prove my point??

Sorry for the Rant

That's why I bought the "gen 2" t-stat I have now (wonder it that is causing my thermal problems?!!!). Is the oem t-stat really THAT expensive?

Re: More thermostst woes.

wow! y'all go through some thermostats, huh?! i replace mine every spring as part of spring maintanance and haven't had one go bad on me in between...

i do need a new one in my lincoln though - temp won't even come up into the "normal" range. i'm thinking about 5 or 10 degrees warmer oughtta be enought to get it up there.

Re: More thermostst woes.

I wouldn't go with a warmer one because it's running cool - it's running cool because your old one is hung open, not allowing the coolant to carry heat away (warm up) and to the radiator before it's cooled down again.

Re: More thermostst woes.

You could be right - I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for the input. I'll try a stock t-stat first and see what happens. I guess now I have had one go bad!
