Re: dead zuk

Possible a shorted wire somewhere is discharging your battery over time.

With good charge on battery and key off test for current discharge with
a Vom that can measure DC current or use 12 volt lamp place in series
circuit of battery post to main power leads. If Lamp lights or if you
measure current flow then you have a shorted circuit or something is
turn on using power causing battery to discharge.

IF you have no lamp or vom jump start Zuk drive it around for while
charge up battery then turn key off disconnect one battery terminal
to isolate battery then next day hook it up see if starts if works
then you have a shorted circuit somewhere.

Alternators may test good cold but when hot open and fail to charge
There is easy test for this without removing it and not test instr.
needed I gott'a go now...

Re: dead zuk

Sometimes the fusable link can go bad. Just cut it out of the line and wire direct to bypass the thing. This would be one less possibility.

Re: dead zuk

it seems to me its the voltage regulater ... on the sammys that is part of the alternator .it sound like the symptoms of the voltage regulator going out and not charging the battery properly.there is a good chance it could be any thing but thats what it would put my money on .zukikid

Re: dead zuk

Sounds like you may have the same problem I had. I had a relay switch burn out on my 1987 sam.. Looking on the wiring diagram it is a four way switch with connections to - battery, battery, wiring bundle & starter ( im doing this from memory so I may be a little out). The switch is a square plastic box about an inch by an inch located midway between battery and starter.

Napa quoted $28 for the new switch but I wentto Pep boyz looked through all their relay, swicth etc books and found one with the same layout for $9.

Installed it and hey presto it started.

You van test the relay by taking a jumper wire from the battery to the starter. It should turn over. If this happens you know it is the relay.

get back to me if you need any more details including Pep boyz part #

Re: dead zuk

Don't leave the starter out! I have had several vehicals, domestic and foriegn do this same thing. Beleive it or not, a bad starter will cause this problem.

Re: dead zuk

i put a volt metter in series with the hot side of the battery and it checked 12 volts when the zuk was not running. i disconnected some wires and the radio but it did not go away. i put a switch on the small wire off the battery and theres no short when i switch it to off when the zuk is not running. i will try this for a week or so,,any other ideas let me know.
