Rear Tranny Seal

I have to replace the rear tranny seal on my '87 Samurai. Any tips or problems to look out for? I am thinking--remove four bolts at transfer case, drop shaft to tranny. Pull out old seal, tap in new one. Reinstall shaft. Check fluid level. Sounds easy. Is there more to it than this?

Re: Rear Tranny Seal

Nope, that's it. Just make sure you use the right size socket so you don't bang on the middle of the bearing.

Re: Rear Tranny Seal

They say its easy, but I tried practicing on an old tranny never did get the real seal out.mine was leaking pretty good so I had to do something.I bought a bottle of auto trans stop leak/seal conditioner and got lucky, now that I'm bragging it'll probably start leaking again, but till now no troubles.

Re: Rear Tranny Seal

I have a 1 inch PVC pipe stuck into a tee fitting. The over all length of the pipe and tee assembled is 8 1/8 inches. I needed that combination to reach the seal and have hammer clear a cross member.
