Panel light dimmer control

Me again,
'86 Sami.... I'd like to know what's with the instrument panel light dimmer control- why does it need to be so complex rather than just a more simple type of rheostat? I'm on my 2nd one now which quit too- can't find a wiring problem in the lights so I think it was bad luck on getting a flaky used one. I've got it jumpered out now so's the panel lights only comes on and off with the side/headlamps, no dimmer at all. Is there a better control available that will replace the grounded circuit board in the Sami control?
Thanks, AJM

Re: Panel light dimmer control

I have fixed mine by taking the board out of the box and resodering all of the joints. You are right it is way to complicated and expensive. I remember $65.00.
A simple rheostat will work or somthing for another car that is 12 Volts. I am presently using a high, low switch out of a 110 V halogen light. It has a resister for low setting.
