shifter troubles

Over christmas when i replaced my clutch and tranny, i noticed that the ring around the big ball at the bottom of the shifter was busted up... couldn't do anything about it at the time, so i just crammed it back in there... went to the dealer the other day to get a replacement, and we couldn't find a picture... the guy SAID he knew what i was talking about, so he ordered me something... i got a little grommet type thing that goes on the very bottom ball... not what i was looking for

what i need is a ring with about an inch and a half diameter... is this part of the actual shifter? Am I going to have to get a whole new unit?

does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Re: shifter troubles

It's a grease seal designed to keep water and gunk out of the trans and the gear oil inside . Can't remember exactly what they call it , but it belongs on top of the ball . I need to get one for mine , it's about shot .

Re: shifter troubles

if it were shot, would it make for hard shifting?

is the part you're talking about about a half inch thick? I could have sworn it went basically around the center of the ball....
