Cheap Alternative To Cage Grab Handles ??

Is there a cheap alternative to cage grab handles. I have the Roadless Gear ones and they might be fine for horizontal mounting but don't fare well vertically mounted. RG also has a set of weld on handles for $35, but it includes a passenger "Oh Sh*t" bar. I'm looking for just 2 handles, maybe 1" diameter tube/pipe to weld onto the vertical bars by the windshield to aid in entering/exiting the rig. Any good looking home brew ideas? I don't have a tube/pipe bender, but welding isn't a problem.....

Crow,

How about the stock grab handles from the back of some (upholstered) zukes? depending on
tube thickness you can tap the threads for probably a #10-32 socket head cap screw and your there.
If your cage can't be tapped, I'm not sure how much good it is for its primary jub unless it's 4130 CrMo.

Crow,

Go down to your neighborhood Harbor Freight and get a 10 dollar conduit bender, then use 1 inch plumbing pipe, bend it up yourself and notch it yourself with a hole saw and your in business. Could probably cover your truck with o-$hit handles for less than 20 bucks.

What about some 1/4 to 3/8 cold rolled about 11" long. Bend about 1 1/2" to about a 90 degree angle on one end in a vice. Slide 8" of some gas line hose on it then bend the other end to match the first. Just a thought.

Jim, I have something similar, but they tend to "pull down" when mounted on a vertical surface......

Wayne, I've thought about using them, and at one time I actually did. I have a TT cage, so I guess I could drill and tap for those handles. I always thought that drilling into a cage wasn't good, but then again, I did so for my overhead CB rack.....

A lot of dump trucks and rigs have smaller handles they mount on them. I had them on an old international cab over I had... should look in to a place that caters to that type of truck or a farm store, they make weld-on types and you could be out the door for less...

howdy,
well you can use them handicap toilet grab bars, but kind of trashey, ya know. or you could do some what like i did. but you would need to do some welding. i cut the factory overhead spreader bars and mounted them from tube to tube.

hope it works for ya.

What about some big boat rope tie down hooks. Some of the larger ones will double as a grab handle and you can get them in Stainlees Steel, Cast with chrome plating and high impact black nylon. Suspect the black nylon would cost the least and look the best.
