97 Metro engine in Sammy?
I have access to a 1997 1.3 Chevy Metro engine.
37K miles.
I was wondering what I would need to do to install it in my 1988 Sammy.
I would like to reuse my Weber carb if possible.

What do I need to change or modify to get this motor to fit?

You'll probably just have to change the oil pan, oil pickup tube, flywheel, samurai timing stuff, and a samurai head (intake and exhaust of course). Probly the shortblock is all that is usefull. Dunno for SURE though.

Re: 97 Metro engine in Sammy?
I put a '92 (maybe '94- it was awhile ago) Suzuki Swift (same as a Metro) engine in my Suzuki. Everything bolted right up. In order to use the Sami distributor, I swapped the Swift cam with the Sami cam. I didn't swap heads since my Sami head was toast. I swapped over the intake and exhaust manifolds and mechanical fuel pump so I could use the Sami carburetor. Unfortunately, you will have to hook up an electric fuel pump since '95 and newer engines don't have provisions for the mechanical fuel pump. If I were you, I would stick with the electronic fuel injection from the Metro and punch out the firewall to fit the Metro distributor (the Sami distributor probably won't work with the EFI computer).

As an aside, is the Metro engine really a 1.3L? I know some older Canadian 4-door models had the 1.3L, but from what I have heard most older US models only had the 1.0L - 3 cylinder. Maybe they changed this around later on.

Re: 97 Metro engine in Sammy?
Both motors were available, the 1.3 is pretty rare though. probably more so than the GTI twin cam.
