Steering stabilizer mounting question

Ok this may be the ultimate in dumb questions. I bought a bunch of used parts off a guy here on the board. One of the items was a pro-comp steering stabilizer. Looking at it it appears to be mounted to axle on 1 end and the tie rod(?) on the other. Now my 1st inclination was to mount it between the tie rod and axle, nope..pumpkin is in way. Below is looking to get ripped off so do I mount it above the axle and then angled over to tie rod? I see from the angle the 2 u bolts for the tie rod mount are going to be a pita

Re: Steering stabilizer mounting question

The first thing to check is if the stableizer has enough "throw" to allow full lock to lock steering. I keep
running into cases where the stableizer is too short for the application.

Your best mounting position from a performance point of view is axle to tierod.

Try it at the extreme drivers side end of the tie rod, then to the axle housing.

Re: Steering stabilizer mounting question

not tryint to be a smartass just asking an honest question....but if axle to tierod is the best why did suzuki put the factory stabalizer from the frame to the pitman arm? and since i assume they did have a reason...what advantage would it give to have it mounted there vs. the axle-tierod...or vice versa?

Re: Steering stabilizer mounting question

Jason,
I have no clue why its mounted that way. Think about what its trying to do.
It's supposed to damp vibrations before they oscillate out of control into the death wobble.
The best place to do it is as near the source as possible.

Re: Steering stabilizer mounting question

Good point, it also helps in hitting a rut and having your steering wheel yanked out of your hands?I was just showing him an example of how mine is mounted. You can also tell a big differance between the stock stabilizer and the ProComp one (night and day).
