Extreme 4x4\'s on TV...and no helmets....

Just saw Exyreme 4x4's on the Travel Channel...It was pretty neat...

However, I was appauled at the lack of use of helmets by spotters and drivers... Some used them, but apparently it wasn't required....

I still think helmets should be required at the competition events at the Melt....

I think all that footage was filmed before helmet's were required.
BTW....it's 1:15a.m. here now, and 4x4TV is on the outdoor channel!!

Yeah, that was a pretty cool show. Did you notice how the narrator referred to every vehicle as a "Jeep"? There was some great footage tho of the events.

My wife and kids had to sit thru it - oh what a shame! - I got even for them making me watch "room by room" and "interiors by design". It's my turn now!

And there was even a zook amoungst all the "jeeps"..... The blue one with diamond plate side boxes.... I believe it was featured in one of the mags a couple of years ago....

Yep, we have those braile drive up ATM's.....Life never ceases to amaze me......

Funny though.....we'll spend heaps of $$$$ on armor to protect axles, t-cases, and body parts, but resist basic protection for our own melon........and if said melon turns into guacomole dip, nothing else matters......

This is one subject where I can't say, "It's not brain surgery".....because it could very well be.....

Re: Extreme 4x4\'s on TV...and no helmets....

I'll bet Ramsey was praying it wasn't one of their winches that accidentaly kicked into reverse.....

Another thing I'm a bit leary of is how close they allow spectators..... I once was at a 4x4 mud/sand drags that a CJ went out of control and into the croud, throttle pegged and without a driver.....It was a miracle that no one was killed although a little girl did have her arm broken....

Again, I see no reason why spectators should be allowed to sit so close to harms way..... They should adopt the space = safety thinking at the Melt as well.....

Re: Extreme 4x4\'s on TV...and no helmets....

I saw the hand injury scene as well. It looked as though the spotter was shouting at the driver to turn it off. It made me wonder... who operates the switch that controls the winch? Is it the driver, or the spotter? I don't know anything about winches, but it seems unlikely that a winch would just switch itself on....
