pilot bearing?

where does the pilot bearing go, and what does it do?

I was dismayed to find that the clutch kit I got didn't come with a pilot bearing... i went ahead and ordered one (get it tomorrow) at an extra 12 bucks... i thought it should have come with it, but whatever...

so anyway, what does it do?

Re: pilot bearing?

The pilot bearing in the flywheel acts as a carrier for the input shaft on the trans , so has a guide to carry it . That poor little bearing gets a lot of abuse, since it takes up any deflection from the clutch . I will never change a clutch without replacing one , I know I'd regret it pretty fast . Make sure to use a bit of waterproof grease on the input shaft sleeve for the throwout bearing , and the arm's finger tips that push it .
