Leaking axle...survey says???

bad oil seal?? I just noticed I had a puddle of gear lube (I think...barely smelled) by my back passenger tire. I'm assuming bad oil seal? What all should I change for this? Much of a job? I noticed that my vent cap is rusted on..I wonder if I got water in the diff and forced it out through the axle shaft??

Would this be the time to do the SJ410 plate conversion? Where do you get those 410 plates?

Sounds like an axle seal. Pull your drum &check your brake shoes too. You can always clean your shoes if their not to saturated with oil. Also check that vent. TrailTough has the plates.

P.S. Check your brake lines, fittings & wheel cylinder scince the fluid "barely smelled", unlike a good old gear oil stinch!

If it is the seal, make sure you check the bearing when it is apart.

You can get the 410 backing plates through the dealer for $8 and change.

Not the time to do the 410 thingy, unless you have the time and money to do it. to do this right, you need the 410 backing plates, new wheel bearings. Then the time to do the ness fab work (which should be no more than a day)
