frontend vibration when stopping

i have a 93 samurai and have this horrible frontend shudder when i apply steady medium pressure to the brakes. i also hear a constant continous thunk noise if i keep braking while applying medium pressure and dont let up. it doesnt happen all the time but most of the time and it doesnt happen when i slam on the brakes or feather it lightly. could this be a broken engine mount, a warped brake rotor or something else? anyone had this problem?

Re: frontend vibration when stopping

I would check for a warped rotor first...

In fact I would go ahead and change the rotors and pads out if your budget allows.

Re: frontend vibration when stopping

I concur with the rotor turning or replacement. I had the same problem on my Powerstroke. I ended up replacing one rotor which was too far out to turn. Check the new rotor to make sure it is true. I had to have it turned as well. Strange the pads were still in decent shape so I don't know what caused the warpage. This fixed the problem.

Re: frontend vibration when stopping

that happens alot.(brand new warped rotors) the reason why is they are supposed to lay them flat when storing them but stand them up instead. that for some reason causes them to warp. the guy at oreily's thought i was crazy when i said to turn the new rotor! he didn't charge me for it when i picked it up though!
