Found an 87 tintop, Should I buy?

Right now I have an 87 softop that I am planning to fix up and was wanting to throw some nationals on and daily drive it.

Today I found an 87 tintop that needs work for $200. The body is in good shape with the exception of the hood. It is showing 81k miles but the owner has a lost title. It runs but the motor is pretty oily. Do I really need another zuk??????? I think with a Pony carb and some TLC it might be salvagable. There are some little things also, broken door handles, master cylinder, front bumper, etc. I am thinking SPOA and just wheel it?

Would anybody be interested in it if I decide against it?

BUY THIS!!! you will never be sorry. If there are things that you yourself can fix on it... I suggest making this your daily n keeping the soft top for your trail truck. It is very rare to find a tin top in good to reasonable shape.. If you don't pick it up someone on here sure will.

Re: Found an 87 tintop, Should I buy?

do not hesitate. BUY IT!! i have only ever seen a few tin top zuks for sale with good bodies, and of those only one was for sale "cheap". i bought it and fixed it up, replaced engine, interior, wheels and tires and now i drive it as my work car. i drive well over 50 miles per day and tin top zuks drive so much better than soft top zuks do because they are far quieter and seem to have far less rattles.

to tell you the truth, here in minnesota rust free samurai bodies are far and few between and are in "high demand" and will fetch a premium price.

just buy it!!!!

FYI to all: There's a sweet tin-top for sale at a used car lot on Bragg Blvd. in Fayetteville, NC. Guy said it smokes like crazy, and it sounded like he wants to get rid of it. No idea on price. I'll make a separate post about it too.

Well, I bought it!!! Its going to take a lot of TLC but I think its possible! I was going to buy a removeable hardtop for my softop zuk but it looks like I could take that $$$ and get this one on the road!!! I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Congradulations! YOu will never be sorry. We started out with a Tin top... and we still have the shell of it sitting in the back yard for when we get the $$ together to make that a trail rig for the hubby. Until then we share the rag top... but pretty much that one is mine.
