Since no one's brought it up.....

I've been thinkin' 'bout the VW-Zuki swap.

Anyone in here tried it?

Am I crazy, diluded or in for a heartache?

I believe that Petroworks also offers a swap kit. The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is, don't plan on driving it on the street. Desil conversions are a NO-NO here in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia.

mykwillisrn,
Evidentally I do not sit on the computer all day and reply to posts like some people.....lol! Actually I am too busy building Zuk's for customers, designing new products, and shipping or installing products I have sold. Oh yeah, OR I am oyt wheeling with the kids (and the dogs, too). They love 4-wheeling in the Samurai!

Don't mind the drool!

Boy, someone at DMV lied to me. About a year ago, when I had the time and $$$ I was planning on doing the conversion. When I checked the particulars at my local DMV office I was told,"You can not convert a gasoilne powered vechile to a desil legally in the state of California".

If you look in to it, Cal state has it all layed out (in writing).
You have to contact the DMV main office to get the facts.
I looked into Cali's so I could show it to WA state.
Wa state so go ahead.
We will tell you "AFTER", weather or not you can put plates on it.
So I went 16V instead.
It passes with flying colors

I also looked into it about a year or so ago. As of then:

You can transplant an engine from one passenger vehicle (VW) ,
to another passenger vehicle, (Sami) ;
So long as the doner is the same year or newer.
So long as the doner smog equipment is also used.

Note that I said passenger vehicle, you may NOT tranplant from Lt truck
to passenger or vice versa. etc etc.

You then (after the fact) get to go through the referee
and have it inspected to make sure everything is there and
working properly.

Unless they have changed something, and as long as you follow
their rules, their SHOULD be nothing they can do to stop you, but
don't expect them to make it easy. I tried to find the refferee
station(s) so i could disscuss it with a referee, and it's unlisted,
they will refer you only when they decide you need to see a referee!

That what I know so far....

BTW most of the hacks at the DMV offices know nothing, unless
its new clean registration or clean re-registration/transfers.
Your lucky if ONE person knows more. What's up with that?

Therehin lies the problem, desils have no smog equipment, newer gas engines do. In trying to change over from a polution controlled engine to one that requires none is a royal PITA! It is the hopes of the DMV that you will die of old age or get disgusted and go away before they make a ruling.
