Good news -Bad News on ECM Repair

Today I attempted repair on two 1991 ECMs.
One now works perfictly. T he other works with the exception that I still have to run a Power lead direct to the injector which meand that the check engine light will remain lit,but the engine will run correctly. Other than that , both work great.

It was just a matter of changing out the four capacitors.
The worst part was getting the old ones out of the board without damaging the board.-- The solder sucker wasn't working right.

I hate solder suckers, they never seem to work good. I use solder wick usually

Boy I agree with that. I never found a solder sucker I liked, and just stuck with the finest copper braid solder wick I could find, and liquid flux. Good news AKDale! What were the values of the caps you replaced?

Re: Good news -Bad News on ECM Repair

First-- If you don't at least have hobby quality electronics skills, I don't recomend that you attempt the repair. Things can get messed up FAST.
Send it to Glenn at Petroworks. He is knows his stuff.
Seems to be a great guy.
That being said,-----

I don't remember the values of the caps.--AlI did was get the values off of the old caps, buy new ones and put them in.
Here is a good link that gives info on replacing caps.----
This is not the same ECM as the ones that we have. The proceedure is the same.

Good luck
