Sidekick Calmini Belly Armor

Well, I installed the Calmini Belly Armor on my Sidekick, before this trip to Moab. I smashed rocks with every single piece of armor, so it paid for itself already.

The first step, is installing the new truss and steering stabilizer. The truss extends between the front mount bolts for the suspension a-arms. These are on brackets that are welded to the frame. Welllllll... My a-arm mount bolts were closer together, than the holes drilled in the new truss. Because I bought this car used, I don't know if it was ever in an accident, where the vehicle was hit from the side, bending the a-arm brackets closer together. That's my suspicion. The result, was that I had to drill the truss mounting holes "oval", to get the truss mounted. What a PITA. But it still works just fine. Here's the photo.

Tim, that was one Kick Arse ride. That's in Mirror Alley, on SteelBender. I did it with open diff's, but NEXT time I will have ARB's on that baby! I didn't take a single bypass (well, we skipped Widowmaker), but I did have to winch myself up the biggest step, and we belayed my Kick down one on a winch from above (I ended up on ONE TIRE at one point in that one!!!!!)

Something must have happened to it. I installed the same Calmini steering stabilizer/truss assembly with front skid plate on my X90 and everything lined up perfectly.

Re: Sidekick Calmini Belly Armor

You have the "old style" truss. The new truss is a massive U-shaped channel, that wraps the a-arm brackets completely, front and back.

Got any pics of it, the calmini site still shows the one I have? I am kinda curious to see the differences.

Re: Sidekick Calmini Belly Armor

Well, I'll try to get a pic. They changed the front armor plate, too. Just visualize a big piece of steel channel that you install with the "U" up - it's WAY beefier than the tubular strut they used to sell. The front armor also just wraps around the bottom and front, as you can see in the picture. Let's see if I have a better pic of it here at work...

Yeah, try this:
