$200 Sammy - Questions

Found a $200 Sammy yesterday here in NC. Going to look at it Saturday in Lumberton, NC (anybody wanna come with?). Has a new transfer case & rebuilt tranny, and is rust-free, but he says it needs a new "crank kit?". Here's my questions:
1) He says it's an '88. How can I tell if it's an 88 or 88.5?
2) Does it even matter? Are the major parts interchangeable? (ie. motor/transmission, axles, etc.)
Thanks!

For $200 your asking questions ? Just take it and run before he changes his mind.(LOL) Even if you use it just for parts it would be worth it.

Re: $200 Sammy - Questions

thru 86 and up most all major componets are the same a crank kit is a reground crank and oversized bushings i would be warey of a possiably spun bearing if the owner knows it needs a crank kit a friend got one cheap because the owner was told it needed a new crank turned out to be carbon build up on the pistons making the noise

Re: $200 Sammy - Questions

The funny thing is, i'm stopping by another place on my way there to offer a guy $300 for an '87 Sammy...

I've travelled to most every small town in southeast NC for my job in the last year. All that road time and you find some real gems on the roadside!

I'll come with ya, if you don't want it, I'll get it. I have been looking for a cheap parts rig. Just not sure how to get it home.

Re: $200 Sammy - Questions

If it's Rust-Free and complete it's worth $200, the new transfer case & rebuilt tranny are a bonus.
Who cares what year it is. If it was in my area I would have it home already

Re: $200 Sammy - Questions

ok, ok... i'll probobly buy it regardless, but the point of my post was to see if 88.5 parts would swap with my 87. ie., is this thing even useful to me... thanks for the replies - guess i'd better jump on it quick!

Hey Steve........if you change your mind, let me know. Lumberton is only 30 miles from my house and I'll gladly take it.
