Water pump advise, please.

Hi all,
is the water pump the same on the 1.3 samurai engine as the 1.6 16 valve sidekick engine?

and what is a good long lasting brand of water pump.

I need to replace the water pump on my 16 valve engine, and based on the experience of water pumps that I had put on my 1.3 engine, just to have them fail in less than 10k miles, I would like to pick up a good long lasting brand of water pump this time..

thanks in advance for your advise...

Re: Water pump advise, please.

Make sure you have the right mixture of antifreeze! What is going wrong with the pumps you are getting? Your fan/clutch assembly may be out of round or balance distroying the water pump?

Re: Water pump advise.

When I swapped in my 1.6 8 valve motor, I was told that the water pump was different than the 1.3 pump. My new motor already had a water pump on it so I didn't worry about it.. but they sure looked the same to me! I am sure it would fit up, but the water flow may be different??? Sorry I can't give ya any info on a better brand. If yer buying a new one anyway, be sure to get the one for your motor. Usually at the auto parts counter, they have a couple options for quality/price replacement parts. Good luck
(Incidently, I've been thru two pumps on my old 1.3 when it was in the Samurai. The 1.6 had no problems for the 10k miles that are on it so far.)

Re: Water pump advise, please.

50/50, also the pumps that I went through was on my 1.3 engine.

but this is on my 1.6 16 valve.

what is wierd, it only leaks every two weeks or so, and then is fine for a week or two...I don't get it...???

I am pretty sure it was not the engine, most likely a poor brand,...

Re: Water pump advise, please.

Rich, I haven't replaced a water pump on my 16v, but it has a different part number from the 1.3. It has the same part number as an 8v 1.6 though.

Re: Water pump advise, please.

for what I saw and tested..
yes they interchange, BUT the pulley differ.
There is 2 model of water pump, one for the "thin" timing belt and one for the width (1 inch) timing belt.

The difference is in the offset of the pulley from the block.
