Urgent, transmission and x-fer breather options.

Ok, since I'm doing an engine job, while I'm there I'll add hosed transfer case and transmission breathers. The stock ones will not do, what should I look for or use. I've heard of ppl using 90* fittings and having the trans/transfer drilled and taped for that fitting. What should I look for @ ace hardware or home depot?

Re: Urgent, transmission and x-fer breather options.

Of course I did not do the search before I posted. 1/8" here I come!
Quote from Jeepn

If you're going to drill down through, use a 1/8" NPT tap to thread the hole, almost all fittings use the 1/8" NPT (National Pipe Thread).

While/before drilling, coat the end of the drill/tap with generous amounts of grease. The grease will catch any filings so they don't end up in the tranny and ruin the bearings. I have also used a large shop vac with a dry bit and had good results. Just be careful not to get anything in the tranny as it'll mess it up.

Re: Urgent, transmission and x-fer breather options.

thats what i did and i found the metal fitting is just pressed in the transfercase during tapping it started spinning i enede up pulling the steel insert out and clamping it with some vice grips to get the tap free then i finished tapping it put some sealant on it and reinserted it the vice grip marks made it a realy tight fit back in its hole
